Clear Intent™
What Is Clear Intent™?
Clear Intent™ Definition
Clear Intent is the LoyaltyOps foundational framework that defines and aligns the four core statements every executive team must agree on: who we are, what we do, why we do it, and where we're going. When executives mean genuinely different things when they use the same words, execution suffers. Clear Intent surfaces and resolves that misalignment before it creates downstream friction.
Why Clear Intent™ Matters in Practice
Most executive teams assume alignment because they have been in the same meetings, agreed to the same plans, and used the same language to describe the organization's direction. Clear Intent tests that assumption by asking each executive to articulate the four statements independently, then comparing the results. The gaps that surface are almost always surprising, because shared language does not guarantee shared meaning.
A technology company preparing for a significant growth phase, for example, may find that its CEO and its COO have meaningfully different understandings of which market the company is building for over the next three years. Both have been in every strategy meeting. Both believe they are aligned. The difference only surfaces when each is asked to write it down independently. That gap, left unaddressed, produces inconsistent hiring decisions, conflicting resource allocation, and execution that pulls in two directions without anyone understanding why.
Clear Intent closes that gap by creating a single, written, agreed-upon foundation that every executive can reference when making independent decisions. When the foundation is shared, independent action produces consistent results.
Clear Intent™ In the LoyaltyOps System
Clear Intent is the starting point for every LoyaltyOps engagement and the foundational framework in the Communicate stage of the Performance Flywheel. It is also available as a free standalone exercise for executive teams who want to test alignment before committing to a full sprint engagement.
